With the success story of Nakhon Kitchen, I am not surprise to see another Thai restaurant opening its door for business at neighbourhood area. Soi Thai Kitchen is established about six months ago at block 824 Tampines Street 81. Relying on my lunch partner, Maureen's dining experience at Nakhon Kitchen, she told me the concept at Soi Thai Kitchen is similar to Nakhon Kitchen even down to the plates used for the food. I have not tried Nakhon Kitchen because I was always turned off by the long queues. Anyway back to the food at Soi Thai Kitchen...
Thick Tom Yum Soup (prawn) 3.8/5
Came with fresh prawns and mushrooms, the Thick Tom Yum Soup ($6) was not too spicy. I felt it was just right with a nice balanced of sourness and spiciness. Only disappointment there is no seafood Tom Yum Soup on the menu. I would prefer more choices in my tom yum soup not just only prawn or chicken.
Thai Style Kang Kong 4/5
For just a mere 6 dollar, the portion was quite worthy. Nicely cooked to a crunchy bite, the Thai Style Kang Kong ($6) came with a very homely flavour.
Beef Paneang 4.2/5
Using beef cheeks for the Beef Paneang ($10), the Thai style red chilli beef was my favourite. The beef cheeks were extremely tender with a nice thin layer of fats. It is not really a spicy dish more towards the sweetness side. The gravy goes with the rice very well.
Thai Yellow Ginger Chicken 4/5
The Thai Yellow Ginger Chicken ($8) was very flavourful, nicely coated with the yellow ginger sauce. The chicken was tender and juicy. However we thought the dish can be a bit spicier.
Sea Bass with Namjim Larb 4.2/5
Something for a different this time, I tried the Sea Bas with Namjim Larb ($22). The highlight was the Namjim dipping sauce. Made with ingredients such as garlic, fish sauce, lime juices, sugar and chilli, the sourness went very well with the fish meat. In addition, the dipping sauce also came with minced pork in it.
Mango Sticky Rice 4/5
We had the Mango Sticky Rice ($5) wrapping up the sumptuous lunch at Soi Thai Kitchen.
I consider Soi Thai Kitchen value for money with the wallet friendly pricing. At Soi Thai Kitchen, you can also send back your food for adjustment if you find it not spicy enough or too spicy to your likings. Now or rather for the moment, I have a good alternative and reason to skip Nakhon Kitchen if I want to beat the queues for Thai food.
